Breathe (2021)

Breathe for wind ensemble is conceived as one large crescendo of breath, inhaling and exhaling. Breathe is constructed of mostly even phrases and new countermelodies are distributed among the different tone colours of the ensemble. Each phrase becomes larger and louder than the previous one, until the piece is brought to a vibrant exhalation, then ending quietly. Breathe was commissioned in 2021 by the Australian Society of Music Education for the Hobart Wind Symphony, directed by Simon Reade.
